California Dog and Cat Rescue

Wildfires sweeping across California have left countless animals in desperate need of help. Families and caretakers have been forced to flee their homes, often with little time to ensure their pets’ safety. Many dogs and cats are stranded, while others are being sheltered in temporary locations, relying on the generosity of those who have opened their facilities to provide refuge.

At Worldwide Vets, we are stepping up to provide critical support to these animals and their owners during this crisis. But we can't do it alone—we need your help. During the disaster response period we are taking the following emergency steps:

  • Mobilizing our own disaster response team of veterinary technicians to bring vet supplies, and assist teams on the ground.

  • Delivering supplies to shelters and rescuers.

  • Sending medicines to treat burns and wounds.

MARCH 2025 UPDATE

Over the past 2 months, our team members Bailey and Jamie have been in Los Angeles, coordinating the distribution of critical supplies to address the most urgent shortages. This has involved purchasing and delivering essential medical items and providing hands-on assistance at several facilities, where qualified and experienced personnel were identified to be a top priority.

In addition to sourcing supplies locally, we traveled to Los Angeles with two suitcases filled with donated medical supplies from Worldwide Vets supporters in the USA. These included flea and worm treatments, burn creams, leashes, treats, and toys, all of which will make a meaningful difference in the care of animals in need.

We were honored to be featured on the NBC LA News Reel. You can watch it here

On the ground

We have been delighted to work with so many wonderful organisations in California over the last few months. Some of the teams we have supported include:

  • California Wildlife Center in their noble effort to rescue species like birds, deer, bobcats, squirrels and possums. We provided to rebuild a fire damaged enclosure, and since they lost power during the fire, and refrigerated food rotted, we purchased new fresh feed for their animals in this critical time.

  • Pasadena Humane Society we have coordinated veterinary support to carry out much needed surgeries and care.

  • For Saint Gabrielle Valley Humane Society, we sourced and delivered enrichment items like Kongs, blankets and treats, provided wound care creams and replaced kennel equipment like bins and scoops that the staff highlighted as an urgent need.

  • CAMP LA provide affordable veterinary and sterilization services. We donated bandages and creams for burns, plus body wraps for burn and trauma victims. We brought in medications for intestinal upset as well as flea and worm treatment.

  • Cleos Critter Care work against the clock saving wildlife. We purchased 5 wildlife incubators/warmers to provide lifesaving support for injured wildlife that would have otherwise perished.

  • Paws of War provide supplies to emergency response teams. We backed their effort to deliver pet oxygen masks to11 Fire Stations in LA and setting up feeding stations for lost pets.

How You Can Help

We still need your support to continue assisting those affected by the fire. Whilst the flames have gone, the knock-on effect has been severe. We need additional funds to get veterinary surgeons into the shelters, vet technicians to support rehabilitation, food for shelters who lost everything, and medications for ongoing skin burns and infections. If you can support this vital effort, please consider the following:

  • Donate Today: Your financial contribution goes straight to providing care for animals.

  • Share Our Mission: Spread the word on social media to help us reach more people can join our cause.

  • Send supplies: why not consider sending short dated or new medications to assist our work? Head to the Contact Us page and let us know where you are and what you have available for donation and we will do the rest.
